“I believe what prevents men from accepting the homeopathic principles is ignorance, but ignorance is criminal when human lives are at stake. No honest man faced with the facts of homeopathy can refuse to accept it. He has no choice. When I had to face it, I had to become a follower. There was no choice if i were to continue to be an honest man….Truth always demands adherence and offers no alternative.”
Sir John Weir, physician to six monarchs, including four generations of British monarchs.

I find that movies are an incredible way to observe people. Of course we are watching fictionalized characters in a fictionalized story (most of the time). What we are really watching is what society has allowed to surface and the characters are really archetypes of society. Archetypes always represent a part of us - when we connect with a character. But it doesn’t have to be a movie, it can be a book, or a piece of music, or art, or theatre.. When we connect deeply with something it is speaking to our experience. Movies tend to be the most easily accessible way to reach these archetypes as movies are the most accepted form of reaching archetypes.
In homeopathy the medicines are archetypes. Archetypes are unchanging - like mother or father - it just is. Perhaps the word may be “dynamically unchanging” as the archetype of mother and father may have evolved over the last millenia or million years. Same with the substances that comprise homeopathic medicine. Has the copperhead snake changed in the last million years - it is safe to say, yes. Will it change and evolve in another million years, yes. At this point in time, this snapshot of Cenchris (copperhead snake) is dynamically unchanging. Therefore I can depend upon it as a medicine. In my lifetime it will not change, even though it is going through a dynamic process of evolution. In my estimation then it is an archetype - or the snake is an archetype and the varieties of snake are a sub archetype. Either way I love the fact that this thing, this copperhead snake is what it is, there is no refuting. Its chemical, physical, structural, behavioral constituents are known and understood. It cannot be a rabbit, a slug, or a parrot. It is dependable to be what it is.

Much has been written about autism and little is known. Homeopathy in general offers much for autism as well as diseases or symtoms that are hard to understand. I look to the state of the person - the vitality of the organism to relay this information to me. This is seen through language, body type, physical movement, hand gestures. A good remedy can be perceived in the smallest detail as we are one with the disease. The illness is coming out everywhere and most seen in areas where the disease is allowed to express itself. Autism is no different. I look at person and the person has the issue - the issue is never separate. To view it as separate is a mechanistic, Western approach, which can be ok, but to throw the baby out with the bath water isn’t ok. This is how the Western approach has been for the past 200 years. In this new millenium we will see a new approach where conventional and alternative will finally come together. It is needed.

Remedy selection and potency are very important to how homeopaths practice their craft. Often it is said that if you have the remedy correct any potency will work. While this may be true, it will work even better is the potency is dead on. That being said what about repetition. Again, as in potency, there are many, many ideas and theories around repetition. Homeopathy is all about the minimum. Giving the least amount possible for a situation. Potency is one idea of this, and so is repetition. In my estimation it is again dependant upon the pathology, the person and their vital force. One client with lupus wouldn’t do well on a single dose in a high potency, they needed a daily dose of something smaller. Typically, LM’s are thought to be more gentle on someone whose vital force is struggling. When I mean struggling, I’m talking about someone who has had a chronic disease for some time. Conversely, those with strong vitality can handle a higher single dose. Again, the minimum dose means that the smallest amount is needed for that person.

Potency is an interesting idea in homeopathy. Potency is based on the presenting symptoms of a person – where they are at. Some homepaths prefer to start at 200C every time. Others give LM’s. Still, other homeopaths give very low potency. I feel potency should be based upon where the person is at. Then give a corresponding potency that fits that picture. Certainly if the remedy isn’t correct, potency selection won’t mean much, yet time and effort need to be placed in consideration in every situation.

For the homeopath, observation is one of the most important aspects to our work. To develop a keen sense of observation and awareness is critical for the ongoing development of the homeopath. My ears are always pricked for interesting word choices. My eyes are tuned to a gesture that may arise in the midst of a defining moment. My mind is quiet and waits. My heart allows a person to be sad, angry, defiant, quiet, to express themselves as they need to. My being hones in on the state, the energy and truth of an illness.
Nothing else is needed. The Simillimum will emerge.

I recently went to a 5 day workshop in Vancouver BC with a homeopath named, Rajan Sankaran. His work revolves around the idea that a person’s precise homeopathic remedy will be given by the client. In video cases over and over again a person will use hand gestures describing the remedy that they need. Needless to say it was incredible to watch a homeopath with such mastery over his craft and using it in new, interesting and quite frankly - exciting ways. Many have dubbed him an original thinker like Hahnemann, and many have chastised him for going off the homeopathic path - into non Hahnemannian territory and thus heresy. I think the direction he is going is rather exciting, and I’ve utilized some of his methods with outstanding success. Proof is in the pudding I reckon…are people getting helped? If they are then I think it’s a good thing, if not then it isn’t. It all boils down to people who need help. This is why we are in business.

It is graduation time, celebrations, and June the month of weddings. A time for fun and drinking - for those who imbibe, of course. Alcohol and drinking have been with us for longer that we can know and with it comes the dreaded hangover. Here are some simple ideas for dealing with hangover before you are hungover and while you have a hangover.
There are two types of drinkers in my estimation:
- Those who drink to get drunk
- Those who drink and get drunk
For these two different drinking scenerios there are two applications that I use homeopathic remedies. Let’s look at the first situation — those who wish to get drunk and go for it. Quite simply there is a homeopathic remedy and dosing procedure that I offer my clients, it is as follows:
Preparation
- Find the remedy Nux Vomica in a 30C potency (available in any health food store).
- Purchase a dropper bottle at the same store. A one or two ounce bottle will fit the bill.
- Fill bottle with spring water and add 10 drops of alcohol (Vodka is fine).
- Then put 5 pellets of Nux Vomica 30C into said bottle.
- Let pellets dissolve by shaking vigorously 30 times.
Administration
- Squirt a dropper full into your mouth before you start drinking.
- Do this squirt every half hour till you go to bed.
- Shake the bottle 10x before every dose.
I have done this procedure personally on occasions where I have no driving to do, nowhere to go. Namely a college reunion in the past year. I was quite happy with the results of the aforementioned procedure. As the night continued I felt more awake and alive without feeling rundown or stupid — it certainly did take the edge off of the “up” so to speak and it was much more manageable compared to previous times. In the morning I was quite functionable and with far less grogg and haze usually experienced with a headache. Mind you there was some there but it was far less.
Those who drink and get drunk and are hungover I offer a different procedure with the same remedy:
- Get the remedy Nux Vomica 30C (available in Health Food Stores).
- Take 5 pellets under the tongue every 15 mintues until symptoms improve.
Symptoms of hangover include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweats, chills, low energy.
I’ve used this approach with many clients, friends and for my own use when needed. It can be an incredible life saver. Nux Vomica has the ability to restore some of the vitality need to function and can speed recovery by 50% or more. With a hangover time is everything the body knows how to return to balance. Nux Vomica helps to bring it back faster. Remember that alcohol, like any substance, can be toxic in high quantities. Water can be toxic to the one who drinks far too much. Cherries can be toxic if one eats too many. By toxic I mean too much, out of balance. The body has to change functioning to deal with the overload. Every physiology and vital force has a different method which may vary slightly or considerably depending on the toxicity.
Moderation is always the key to health. Drinking is no different, it is ok to drink, it is ok to eat. However alcoholism and addiction is a whole different ballgame. Homeopathy has a great record of treating addiction and alcoholism as classical homeopathy treats the person and their own specific symptom picture on the mental, emotional and physical level. For people who want help with addiction and alcoholism please contact me to book an appointment, or contact the local homeopath in your area.

Recently I had the opportunity to get a referral from an esteemed colleague, someone who is a mentor to me. This client has been suffereing from maniac episodes since childhood. The process in treatment became the focus. After the initial appointment I decided that this is a case that need weekly sessions. There was a lot more about the case and the person that I felt was compensated - not necessarily suppressed. I wanted to wait to see how the vital force was acting in it’s truest sense. What is the baseline function and sensation for this person. We went through 7 or 8 sessions until finally we got to the bottom. There was a lot of dancing around, and avoidance of this place - finally when we got there, the clients tears of understanding and awareness were enough to alert me that this was it - the place of vital energy! As the homeopath I am there to see the case, to understand it and to give a remedy that corresponds to the vitality of the client. At that moment the case became very clear to me, and it was exciting to wait so long for what was to come, not knowing that anything would come or how it would come. Once we tuned in and the right questions were asked the case came alive, doors opened to a new and potentially correct remedy. I have a follow up soon with this person, and I am optimistic.
